You wanna know what I think? Adults don't play intentionally enough. Avocation isn't a word that we use terribly often (if ever lol) but it's one we should pay more attention to. Avocation is the occupation that is secondary to your vocation, or main work. This is your hobby, your recreation, the thing(s) you do just for the fun of it. It also includes the skill set that you develop so you can use it to bless and benefit others. To Live Well Avocationally is to recharge and play hard on purpose. When we take the time to do this, we're able to focus on our people and responsibilities better because we're less overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed. So do you need more play in your life? Confession: I do not like working office jobs 😆. Even though I've had great co-workers and a couple really great managers, as well as fond memories of office shenanigans, office life isn't for me. I don't like the monotony of doing the same paperwork, answering the same questions, troubleshooting the same issues day in and day out. I'm pretty stinkin' good at it (and I don't say that about much 🤓) but it's just not for me. Sooooooooo I decided to become an entrepreneur! And that, my friend, is a whole different kind of hard work 🤪. ⁠

No matter what kind of work you do, whether it's paid or not, and whether you love it or not, you owe it to yourself & others to Live Well Vocationally - to do your best work. If you're in a season where you hate your job or it's just particularly difficult, hang in there and keep pressing forward. It doesn't matter if you're an introvert, extrovert, or somewhere in between (like me 🙋🏾‍♀️), you can Live Well Socially by making intentional choices to nurture your relationships & practice good etiquette. I'll be the first to admit that of the Live Well 6, this one is the hardest for me 🙃. I have a lot of work to do in this area! But relationships are important and people matter.
