My February Tending List & January Review

January 31, 2023 · In: GOALS & PLANNING

It’s the last day of January and winter finally decided to show up in Texas. It’s cold and icy and we are cozied up and staying off the roads for a couple days. These are the days of buttermilk pancakes, BookTube videos, pasta, re-watching favorite movies & reading cozy books. While I am enjoying some of these things with my hubs since he’s home from work, I am also working and trying to be somewhat productive! Part of that means gearing up for a new month. February is tomorrow and I have a ton of things I want to do in this second month of the year.

Last month, I kicked off my 2023 with my January Tending List from my PowerSheets. I intend to share these lists every month as well as my progress through the year. So in this post, I’m going to review how I did with my January Tending List and then share what I have on my February List! I hope this post gives you motivation as you plan and continue with your goals!

January Review

I’m actually super proud that I completed as many Monthly Items as I did. Choosing small, easy tasks really helped me to build some momentum and gave me something to build off of.

  • Of my 10 Monthly Action Items, I completed 6. The other 4 are started and at various stages of completion.
  • Of my 5 Weekly Rhythms, I kept up with 1. Rhythms are hard for me. I get sidetracked or things come up and I put those rhythm items to the side and they never get done. Prioritization is super hard for me sometimes but it has to be done. I’ll keep working on it!
  • Of my 5 Daily Habits, I completed none of them. BUT I did better in some areas than I have in the past. I’d like to have a completed streak but I’m satisfied a little progress every month.

Aside from the items on my list, I also completed a couple more items I’ve been meaning to do for awhile –

  1. Make homemade laundry detergent
  2. Make homemade body wash

As part of my resolution to pursue simple & thoughtful living, I want to simplify the products we use in our home both for personal care and household care. This is something I’m working on slowly, as I can. If I try to change too many things at a time, I’ll overwhelm myself and fail completely. I’m still trying out the recipes I made and once I figure out what works best for me, I’ll share them on the blog!

Overall, even though I didn’t complete everything on my list, I definitely made progress and I’m satisfied! Now let’s talk about February.

February Tending List

Tending lists are broken down into 3 categories –

  1. Monthly Action Items
  2. Weekly Action Items/Rhythms
  3. Daily Action Items/Habits

Here’s what I have on mine.

MONTHLY ACTION ITEMS

  • Read 5 books
  • Make sourdough bread
  • Prep for Q2 Club 119 Bible Studies
  • Plan spring content calendar for blog, IG & LWSF Collective
  • Migrate courses & Bible study to the Collective
  • Set up project boards in my Better Year Playbook
  • Masterclass re-launch writing
  • Complete all listings for January purchases
  • Prep & file 2022 taxes

WEEKLY ACTION ITEMS/RHYTHMS

  • Date night
  • The Live Well Notes
  • Sunday prep
  • Meal planning

DAILY ACTION ITEMS/HABITS

  • Quiet time
  • Read 30 minutes
  • Morning routine
  • Journal

February is a short month but I’m sure that even if I can’t complete all of these items, I can bet pretty darn close!

If you’d like to check out PowerSheets for your 2023 goals, there’s still time to start making Tending Lists of your own! They have lovely color options to choose from, including the beautiful Bluebird cover I chose for this year! At the time of this posting, you can get 2023 PowerSheets for about 30% off! Now is definitely the time to get your PowerSheets and start tending to your goals!

Do you have a list of things you’d like to accomplish in February? I’d love to know what your goals are for the month!

We can all agree that the OT genealogies are great We can all agree that the OT genealogies are great reading matter for insomnia.

Then there are the purity laws.
And the land assignments.
And the censuses.
You get it.

It’s not a sin to say that parts of the Bible are boring, confusing, or hard to follow & understand. It just means you have Bible-reading muscles to stretch out and exercise. There are things you have to get used to and it can take time. But in the meantime, here’s one thing to keep in mind when in a less than exciting or inspiring passage of scripture -

God cares about details. He’s not careless or haphazard. He’s interested in establishing track records because He knows the only way to make His case of love & justice is to offer evidence of His faithfulness in spite of the unfaithfulness of humanity. Nothing is an accident and even when humans don’t listen and jack stuff up, He never loses control over the situation.

It’s okay if it’s boring for awhile. Stick with it until you see its beauty. It’s worth the effort!

“What does this have to do with me?” “How d “What does this have to do with me?”

“How does this speak into what I’m going through today?”

“How does change my life?”

These aren’t bad questions, in fact, they’re good questions and we should ask them. We just shouldn’t ask them FIRST. If we’re primarily concerned with what the Bible has to do with US, we’re probably going to pass up the parts that legit will tell us nothing about life as modern humans (genealogies and law codes anyone?). Instead, we have to change our presuppositions -

1. The Bible isn’t about me. The Bible is about God and His redemptive work in the world.
2. I need to let God’s story tell me about about Himself
3. Knowing who God is, what His intentions are for humans & how He operates in the world makes up the framework I need to understand myself, my value, & my purpose on this planet.

Don’t get me wrong. the Bible will tell you a whole lot about yourself. But first let it tell you about God. Start looking for glimpses of Jesus & the Gospel. In some places He may be harder to spot than others but He’s there, His plan is there, His love is there. Always ❤️

Reading the Bible early morning is a fantastic asp Reading the Bible early morning is a fantastic aspiration and I can’t wait to get there buuuuuuut it’s not required. If you wait for perfect, you’ll be waiting for the rest of your life. Just do it. Make the time and do it. Life is constantly changing and you’ll always have to make adjustments, navigate interruptions, and balance priorities. If this matters to you, you’ll make it happen. ❤️

There’s a lot in the Bible that troubles our mod There’s a lot in the Bible that troubles our modern sensibilities, world views, & feelings, etc.. But you would be foolish to judge an entire movie after only seeing one scene, a show after a plot twist in S3 E5, or a novel by one conversation toward the end of the book. We know not to do it with anything else but the Bible is judged by isolated verses & stories. It doesn’t work like that. While the Bible is holy, it works just like any other story - it should be read in its entirety.

• Yes it’s hard
• Yes, it takes discipline
• Yes there may be a learning curve
• Yes there are some parts that are really boring at first

But it’s good and glorious and God’s gift to humanity. If you care at all about Jesus, take the time to read His story. Take the time to figure it out, to ask questions, to be frustrated, to not be good at it. All of those things are okay. God can handle it all - I promise. Just show up. He’ll meet you there.

I love watching day in the life content. I’ve of I love watching day in the life content. I’ve often wanted to do it but, so many of my days look like this - me at my desk, working and jamming out to my favorite music. It’s not very interesting or varied but it’s my life! Playlists change depending on my mood. Today, I’ve been really feeling the songs from the 80s-mid 90s that I grew up listening to.

So, nobody asked, and excuse my pitchy vocals but here’s a day in my life 😄😎 Happy Monday!
