1. Bibles
First things first, you need a Bible. You don’t need anything fancy – a simple Bible will do. However, if you want to invest in something that has some specific features, like I talked about in a previous post in this series, then here are some of my personal favorites:
- Interleaved Bible – Every other page in an interleaved Bible is blank so you have tons of space for note taking, journaling, or even art!
- Journaling Bible
- Scripture Journals
- Study Bibles – There are so many different kinds of study Bibles out there with different kinds of notes and commentary. These are just the ones I personally have on my shelves. Do your own research based on what particular specs you’re looking for in study helps.
- Panorama New Testament
- Reference Bible
2. Pens
These are some of my favorite for note taking outside my Bible as these will often heavily ghost or bleed on Bible pages:
These are the best for writing on Bible pages:
3. Highlighters
- Bible Hi-Gliders
- Crayola Colored Pencils
- Crayola Twistables
- Mr Pen No Bleed Gel Highlighters
- Tombow Brush Pens – These are really inky so they may or may not be good on your Bible pages.
- Zebra Mildliners
- DiverseBee Highlighters – I don’t have any of these but I’ve seen & heard good things about them!
4. Journals
A journal or notebook is important for study notes, scripture writing and journaling your thoughts about what you’re learning. Again, you don’t have to have anything special but if you’re looking for some fun journal options, here are some of my favorites!

- Cultivate What Matters Scripture Writing Journals
- Daily Grace Co. Story of Redemption Journals

- Well Watered Women Give Me Jesus Journal
