23 Things To Do Before 2023

April 8, 2022 · In: Featured, GOALS & PLANNING

I’m not sure where or when this started but I’ve seen bloggers do these lists of things they want to do before the next year for awhile. Last year, it was 22 things to do before 2022 and the year before it was 21 things to do before 2021. You get the idea.

I haven’t done one of these in awhile but I thought it’d be fun to make a list of small(ish) projects that aren’t really on my goals list for the year but I still want to work on! It’s April, I’m super late to the party but I figured, with 3 quarters still left in the year, I have some time! There are a couple things that I did complete/start in Q1 so I’m including them in my list!

So is here is my list of 23 things I want to do before 2023!

  1. Spend a weekend in a cabin (done in February for our 5th wedding anniversary)
  2. Do a photoshoot with Steven
  3. Go on a road trip (done in June)
  4. Set up my interleaved Bible as a customized study Bible
  5. Learn 3 songs on the piano
  6. Assemble my favorite recipes in a cookbook
  7. Learn 5 fun drink recipes
  8. Master 2 dishes each from my family and my husband’s family
  9. Restock my make up and skin care products (done in May)
  10. Start jump roping
  11. Set up my Notion database
  12. Renew my passport
  13. Grow an herb garden (planted in March)
  14. Have a movie marathon
  15. Go on a picnic
  16. Rewrite my Classics Club list (done in April)
  17. Start making laundry detergent, multi-purpose cleaner, soap, and body wash again
  18. Buy some houseplants (started in May)
  19. Declutter and organize all my paper junk and digital information
  20. Make a list of classic must-see movies
  21. Finish building my wardrobe basics
  22. Clean out and completely reorganize master closet
  23. Renew my CPR certification

What do you want to accomplish in 2022? Do you have a 23 before 2023 list?

Confession: Bible nerds absolutely get distracted. Confession: Bible nerds absolutely get distracted.

Okay, well I don't know every Bible nerd buuuuuuuut Bible nerds are humans and humans get distracted, therefore, Bible nerds get distracted. What I probably can't speak to is how often and to what degree. I can only speak for myself.

As someone who loves the Bible & teaches the Bible (both online and in person at my local church), it would make sense that I'm often reading and studying and just loving all things quiet time and devotions. The truth of the matter is that isn't always the case. I absolutely get distracted in my relationship with Jesus.

Here's the deal: I have the ability to trick my brain into thinking that creating faith-based content or resources (scripture writing plans & Bible studies, etc.) is the same as spending time at the feet of Jesus. And while there can be some overlap, it's not the same thing. That's actually a short-circuited version of what it should be -

Spending time with Jesus results in rich, honest content and resources I can share with others.

But the pressure to perform at the same speed and level as I see on social media constantly tempts me to short circuit the process, cut corners with God, and have the nerve to think that I can point people to a Savior that I don't value enough to give the best of my time and attention.

Wuuuuuuuuut. Let that sink in.

Today on the blog, I’m talking about getting back on track with Jesus when you’ve distracted yourself from Him. Link in bio 😊

Balance in life doesn’t just happen — it’s h Balance in life doesn’t just happen — it’s hard won and maintained through intentionality and discipline. It’s also not something that remains the same all the time. Balance ebbs and flows and looks different every season, even every day, depending on what is going on in life.

I think balance is more about awareness than perfection. When you know who you are and what you’re capable of, you know your boundaries and limitations. Couple that with the knowledge of what needs to be done and can better navigate when to say “yes”, “no”, “not right now”, or “I actually know someone else who is much better at that than I am, lemme hook you up”. You’ll know when it’s time to take a break or hit the gas, when to involve others or fly solo. But all of this takes time to develop and the patience and humility required to listen to God, yourself, those you trust, and what’s going on around you.

I don’t know what you need today, friend, but here’s what I’ve got - take what you need:

— Permission to let go of perfectionism

— A reminder to listen more carefully

— Encouragement to graciously and confidently pursue balance in your life

It’s such a reminder that everything I am, everything I do, everything I say should all be for the glory and magnification of Christ.
