I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am that summer is finally coming to a close and fall is on its way! I know, I know, everyone loves summertime but I, for one, am DONE with 100+ degree weather! Summer drains me and makes me sluggish. Autumn pumps me full of energy and makes me want to conquer all the things!
Can you feel my excitement???
This season also has me thinking about how close we are to the end of the year and how much I still want to accomplish before 2019 is over. Is it just me or does it feel like we just wrote our resolutions for a brand new 2019? Now I’m going over my goals and wondering if I’m going to get everything done before 2020.
So this month, I’ve decided to really dig in and focus on getting stuff done. And I’m starting with self care.
Last year, I wrote a post called 5 Areas of Self Care You Need to Focus On. This month I’m going to take time to really unpack each of those 5 areas and figure out where I need to make improvements in my routines and work flow.
I believe that you have to take care of yourself in a healthy, holistic way if you’re going to take care of the people you love. But believing is one thing. Doing is a totally different thing and I haven’t been doing all that great this year. Since I don’t want to walk into 2020 with all the same bad habits, I’m going to work on nipping some of this in the bud!
I’ve decided to start by tackling one item in each of the 5 areas of self care. Here’s my list:
- SPIRITUAL SELF CARE – Daily quiet time
- PHYSICAL SELF CARE – Regular exercise
- MENTAL/EMOTIONAL SELF CARE – Daily journaling/planning
- ENVIRONMENTAL SELF CARE – Finish setting up the house
- SOCIAL SELF CARE – Create time for others while maintaining boundaries
This won’t all get done this month but I’m going to get the ball rolling!
This year, I’ve come to the conclusion that I really want to live my life well – better than I have been. And I also want to stay focused on the things that are most important to me. My natural tendencies find me flitting around from thing to thing, easily distracted and piling too much on my plate. But I don’t want to do that anymore. I need to set better boundaries, be more strict about daily rituals, and train myself to be laser focused on my goals.
What do you want to get done before the year ends? Are there areas of self care that you need to tackle? Leave me a comment and let me know what areas of self care you want to start working on this month (read my 5 Areas of Self Care for reference)!
